Book Diversions

The Sailor on the Seas of Fate – Book 2 of the Elric Saga

I finished Book-2 of the Elric saga about 2 weeks ago. I’m truly enjoying the series so far. I had been on the “humorous fantasy” reading path for a while, so it’s refreshing to return to classic, high-fantasy literature.

I can’t recall ever reading a Michael Moorcock novel before. His writing style is definitely pulpy and to the point, with heaping doses of inventiveness, and it veers away from many of the more Tolkienesque tropes of the genre.

The Sailor on the Seas of Fate finds Elric embarking on journeys into the past, present, and future. It’s equal parts weird, entertaining, and trippy. This is really the start of Elric becoming The Eternal Champion, even though he doesn’t fully realize it yet.

Stormbringer is nasty! Blue Oyster Cult even wrote a song about it. Can’t wait to read Book-3.

Creativity by John Cleese

I just recently purchased a little book on creativity by Monty Python alum John Cleese. It was one of those “the cover caught my eye” books, and since I like John Cleese and was interested in what he has to say about a topic near and dear to my heart, I snapped it up.

This is the next book on my reading list. I plan to take a quick diversion away from Elric and read this short guide. I’ll let you know how it is!
