Going Medieval

For those of you who enjoy the medieval period of history and/or wargaming that period, hopefully you will enjoy today’s blog post.

King Arthur and Much More

Issue 10.1 of Medieval Warfare by Karwansaray Publishers looks really good, and is one that I’ve personally purchased at Barnes & Noble, but haven’t gotten the chance to read through yet. The feature is on King Arthur and the fall of Camelot, but there’s much more good stuff to complement that content. For those of you who have never checked out this excellent magazine, you owe it to yourself to give it a look, and now is a good time to start. The Barons’ War 2

Several months ago, I backed the Baron Wars Kickstarter by Andy Hobday. That campaign was for 28mm white metal medieval miniatures covering the early 1200’s (Magna Carta period). These models were produced by Footsore Miniatures. I received my set of minis a while ago and can confidently proclaim that they’re quite handsome. I intend to paint them up and use them for games of Lion Rampant and perhaps fantasy battle games such as Sword of Severnia.

Spring-boarding from that prior Kickstarter success, Andy is launching another campaign to continue where the first one left off. The Barons’ War 2 Kickstarter is set to launch on April 26. The focus here seems to be on crossbowmen, foot sergeants, and foot knights, and the sneak peek that I’ve seen looks enticing. Additionally, Andy is working on a set of skirmish wargame rules to complement the line of figures. One interesting note is that in addition to early 1200’s era factions, it’s going to include army lists for Vikings, Saxons, and Normans. Remind you of SAGA anyone? Being a wargame rules junkie, this is even more enticing. Good stuff.
